Character & Leadership Development
YOUTH OF THE YEAR
Boys & Girls Club of America’s premiere Teen Recognition program, which first began in 1947, celebrates extraordinary achievements of Club teens. The Youth of the Year program starts at local Clubs, who then potentially move on to compete state-wide, regionally and nationally. BGCV Youth of the Year winners are awarded scholarship money for competing and are recognized annually at BGCV’s Youth of the Year event at Google – Venice. |
KEYSTONE CLUB
BGCV’s Leadership and Community Service Club, Keystone, gives teens the chance to take leadership positions and plan activities and projects which help benefit our Club and local community. Teens can receive Community Service hours for all projects done for Keystone Club. Keystone Club teens also help plan future events and field trips for the College Prep programs. |
TORCH CLUB
Teach Others Respect Character & Honesty. Torch Club is a year-round leadership club for members ages 11-14 that focuses on service to the Club and the community. Participants commit to a 10-week project, of the group's choosing. After the project is complete, participants may choose to complete another project or continue with the current project. Meetings are Mondays at 4:30 in the Tech Lab. Every year Torch Club members select a project related to the national campaign selected by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. This year's campaign is PAWS - Protecting Animals Through Service. We have partnered with Voice For the Animals to assist in their mission to creating respect and empathy for animals. Past projects include Commit to Be Fit, S.T.O.P. Campaign, End Homelessness Now and Recycling Bottles & Cans. |
JUNIOR STAFF
BGCV’s 10-Week Job Prep program covers topics ranging from resume/cover letter preparation, mock interviews, job applications and even visiting different organizations and companies and learning from employees about finding jobs/careers which are a good fit. Thanks to a grant from Kayne Anderson Capital Advisor’s, BGCV is able to hire top Junior Staff participants for a paid internship during the BGCV Summer Program. Any high school student is eligible to participate, especially those considering teaching or social work as a future career. By the end of the 10-week program, program participants should be much more knowledgeable and confident when applying to jobs and interviewing for those jobs as well. |
