SAILING PROGRAM

In this collaboration between BGCV, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and Fairwind Yacht Club, youth are trained in cooperation through working together as a sailing crew; leadership as “skipper” of a boat; developing a work ethic by helping with the set-up, cleanup and maintenance chores on the boats; and sharpening critical thinking skills.

We are proud to say the program won US SAILING’s Best New Community Sailing Program award for 2004/05, the Distinguished Program Award for Delinquency Prevention from the California Youth Authority in 2006, and an Honor Award for excellence in programming from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in 2007.
