Special Initiatives – These initiatives/programs focus on meeting significant,
specific needs that have been identified by the Boys & Girls
Club of Venice. Because their scope is broad, they relate to or
complement several or all Core Program Areas.
Gang
Prevention through Targeted Outreach is a community-based
strategic approach for reaching out to young people ages 6-18
at high risk of delinquency and gang involvement and directing
them to positive alternatives.
Family
Support Center (Counseling Program) – an on-site
counselingprogram that aims to strengthen the family unit. All
counseling services are provided free of charge to our youth members.

Club Tech – This ambitious, multi-year initiative is focused on providing all Boys & Girls Clubs with state-of-the-art software, new programs and resources that will help build members’ computer skills and integrate technology in all core program areas, as well as provide extensive, ongoing training for Club professionals. Club Tech programming resources include the Skill Tech basic computer skills program, which develops Club members’ proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and other productivity software through fun, hands-on, engaging lessons and projects for four age groups. It also includes the Core Tech resource guide to technology, a user-friendly collection of activities that staff from all Core Program Areas can conduct with members in the Club technology center, and the Activity Exchange, a searchable, interactive database of easy-to-implement activities for every core area accessible from www.bgca.net.
Club Dedicates the Iben Family Support Center
On Thursday, May 10, the club celebrated the Iben’s commitment at a dedication ceremony to re-name its family support center the Iben Family Support Center. Nancy and David Iben recently established an endowment to maintain the counseling program and services on an annual basis. The designated endowment funds will underwrite the annual cost for services provided by licensed counselors to club members and their families free of charge. Currently, Airport Marina Counseling Services operates the center at the club providing licensed counselors and administrative support. The center is located on the second floor at the club and features three private offices and a conference room. Services provided include, anger management, group counseling, family counseling and parenting classes, among others.
