Character & Leadership Development

YOUTH OF THE YEAR

Youth of the year is our premier youth recognition program for Club members ages 14-18.  The competition promotes and celebrates the Club members’ service to the Club, community and family, academic performance, spiritual values, life goals, and poise and public speaking ability.  The winner of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice Youth of the Year participates in the state competition, and can go on further to regional and national competitions.

KEYSTONE CLUB

Keystone is the Boys & Girls Club’s frontier teen leadership program.  The program is structured to assist young people in becoming self-sufficient in their every day lives, as they become independent adults.  The characteristics of Keystoners are to build character through the six commandments of Keystone.  Keystoners are in charge of their decision-making within the dynamics of the Keystone Club, including being self-advisors, conference coordinators, fund raising coordinators, organizing community service projects, education through career searches, and completion of nation wide service projects.

TORCH CLUB

Teach Others Respect Character & Honesty.
Torch Club is a year-round leadership club for members ages 11-14 that focuses on service to the Club and the community.  Participants commit to a 10-week project, of the group's choosing.  After the project is complete, participants may choose to complete another project or continue with the current project. Meetings are Mondays at 4:30 in the Tech Lab.
Every year Torch Club members select a project related to the national campaign selected by Boys & Girls Clubs of America.  This year's campaign is PAWS - Protecting Animals Through Service.  We have partnered with Voice For the Animals to assist in their mission to creating respect and empathy for animals
Past projects include Commit to Be Fit, S.T.O.P. Campaign, End Homelessness Now and Recycling Bottles & Cans.
